Description
The first disk Lazarus ever recovered: a word processor, and the one document saved with it, a letter from a grandfather to his grandson.
Penman was a simple word processor sold by mail order. This copy held a single document, a two-page letter written in the winter of 1986 and never sent.
The word processor is released for access by the daughter of its author. The letter is kept with the family’s permission and is not shown in the reading room.
Provenance
Brought to the first Lazarus rescue day, in a borrowed church hall in Vancouver, by the grandson the letter was written to. The disk had spent nine years in a kitchen drawer.
It read on the third attempt, on a drive one of the volunteers had repaired that morning. The letter was printed that afternoon and handed to him. The disk image has been kept, and verified, ever since.
