The Floppy Rescue

The disks the first Lazarus volunteers rescued between 1994 and 1999.

Lazarus began on a Saturday in March 1994, in a borrowed church hall in Vancouver, with a few volunteers, two old computers and a sign asking people to bring in disks they could no longer read. They came back every month for five years.

This collection holds what those rescue days recovered: games, letters, school projects, business records and software that had already been forgotten by the companies that made it. Much of it was saved with equipment the volunteers built or repaired themselves.
